VIRUS PREVENTION TIPS
In light of the upsurge
of West Nile Virus cases in Texas, the City of Post Oak Bend encourages the following preventive measures: 1.
Mosquitoes breed in stagnant water so regularly drain standing water, including that in buckets, tires, cans, clogged rain
gutters and saucers under potted plants. 2. Use an approved insect repellant when you go outdoors; approved are
those that contain DEET, picaridin or oil of lemon eucalyptus. (Texas Department of State Health Services) 3. Wear
long sleeves and pants outside at dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active. 4. Use air conditioning or make sure
there are screens on all doors and windows to keep mosquitoes from entering the home. 5. The elderly and those with chronic
medical conditions or compromised immune systems are more vulnerable to developing West Nile Virus illnesses, so it's
important to prevent mosquito bites.
